CBSE WORKSHOP ON HAPPY CLASSROOMS 25th October 2024

“In a very real sense, we have two minds – one that thinks and the other that feels.”

As part of the Offline Capacity Building Program, a workshop on ‘Happy Classroom’ was conducted for teachers by CBSE on 25th October 2024 at Lt. Col. Mehar Little Angels Sr. Sec. School.

The workshop guided the teachers on how a happy environment can be created in the classroom, to make studies engaging for students. Dr. Sarita V. Singh, the Principal of Global Public School, Gurugram and Dr. Neeraj Vohra, the Principal of St. Froebel Sr. Sec. School. Paschim Vihar were the honourable resource persons deputed for the workshop. They shared their observations, experiences and facts with the teachers. To promote the emotional well-being of students and teachers, the workshop was based on ways of keeping children’s minds focused on the task at hand, teaching them to live harmoniously with family and society and develop a holistic outlook and perspective of life.

The self-exploratory session began with Dr. Neeraj Vohra, briefly discussing emotional awareness and the importance of healthy mind. The interactive workshop aimed to help teachers realise the pathways to happiness. According to the resource person, only a happy teacher can create a happy classroom. The teacher should leave all worries, anxiety and stress outside the classroom.

Through discussions based on various real-life incidents, it was concluded that a happy classroom can be created through affection, respect, trust, conceptual clarity, sensitization and practice to live in harmony with nature at large. One should understand the source of happiness and how to ensure its continuity. The teachers were told to lend an ear to every student and maintain effective communication and harmony in every relationship.

In the second session, Dr. Sarita V. Singh continued the workshop, focusing on Emotional Intelligence, Emotional Self-Regulation, dealing with Behavioural Issues and Functional Behavioural Analysis. She quoted Aristotle, “Anybody can become angry-that is easy, but to be angry with the right person, and to the right degree, and at the right time, and for the right purpose, and in the right way- that is not within everybody’s power and is not easy.” She explained the integral role of emotions in education, affecting student motivation, attention, social functioning and ethical decision-making.

With various interactive activities, she enabled the teachers to recognize how an emotional equilibrium can be maintained even when life becomes challenging. Through various examples, she explained the importance of reducing the communication gap among the student-teacher-parent to develop healthy and cordial relationship. Motivating the students with various incentives to maintain a conducive learning environment, identifying the root cause of the problem and not labelling a child were some of the key elements of the workshop.

Towards the end of the session, the participants were divided into groups and asked to demonstrate their understanding and their takeaways from the workshop. The workshop was indeed an inspiring reminder for all the participating educators to enthusiastically strive to create a happy classroom and make learning a fun-filled experience for students and teachers alike.

WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS

“If you have to put someone on a pedestal, put teachers. They are society’s heroes.”

Teachers are the essential pillars of any educational institution and Lt. Col. Mehar Little Angels School has constantly ensured that its teachers’ skills are honed to perfection in order to enhance student achievements. In keeping with the recommendations of The National Education Policy 2020, a day long workshop was conducted for the teachers, in collaboration with CBSE, on 13th May 2024.

The main objective of this Workshop was to create awareness about the National Education Policy-2020 amongst teachers and to familiarize them with the skills to help them understand curriculum changes, the shift in pedagogical skills and its implementation for the holistic development of its stakeholders, the students.

The workshop was conducted in two sessions. These sessions were also graced with the presence of our esteemed Managing Director, Mrs. Jasmohinder Singh and revered Principal, Mrs. Manisha Sengar. It is focused on character building, inculcating rational thinking and compassionate care, and ensuring employment through skill development. In order to make the session more interesting, the teachers were given different situations to depict various classroom situations through Role play activity. Financial education needs to become a part of our national curriculum and scoring systems so that it’s not just the rich kids who learn about money…..it’s all of us.
